Why is there an entry fee?
The $10.00 entry fee is help absorb costs of putting on the event, materials, etc. It also makes it possible to award cash prizes for every contest. You do get your money's worth as you get a cd recording of your performance!
Is there a duet category?
No. No duets are allowed in this competition. We have no seperation of categories. Everyone competes for the same title and prize.
Is there a male and female winner?
No. Males and females compete against each other for the same prizes.
How many contestants enter each preliminary?
The number of contestants per preliminary varies. We allow the first 20 people to register.
Who are the judges?
We have a pool of judges that are chosen prior to each preliminary. They are music professionals, business owners, or related to the entertainment industry.
Can the key of a song be changed?
Yes. On your registration card, be sure to write that the key is to be changed and how many steps. (each step is 1/2 key down)
What kind of microphone is used?
Each contestant will be given a Shure Beta, the industry standard.
Can I bring spectators under 21?
The age of spectators is at the discretion of the hosting establishment. Please call ahead. If the establishment does allow those under 21, the behavior of the underage person must be controlled. No distracting behavior will be tolerated.
How many finalists will there be?
The number of qualifiers can vary depending on how many preliminary competitions there are. From each preliminary, the top 3 are advanced to the finals.
What are the finals prizes?
The value of the prizes in the final competition will be determined soon. Keep checking this website for updates.
Can I have a friend videotape my performance?
No. We do not allow videotaping of the contest as it can be distracting for the performers and the judges.
Can I enter more than once?
Yes. Everyone except the first place winner may re-enter as many preliminaries as he or she wishes to.
How many preliminaries are there?
The number of preliminaries has not been determined yet. As we get more hosting establishments, more dates will be added. Keep checking this website for updates.
Can I bring my own cd?
Yes. You can bring your own cd+g discs as long as they are originals from the manufacturer. No illegal copies will be allowed. NO EXCEPTIONS!
